EMDR Therapy
Therapy recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Institute for Care Excellence (NICE)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a therapy that helps you process and move past distressing experiences. It works directly with how your brain and nervous system store memories, so a past event stops feeling as intense, present, or overwhelming as it once did. Old experiences also stop having so much power over how you think and feel right now, which can help you break free from patterns that keep repeating.
It’s often used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after a specific event. It’s also widely used for difficulties that build up gradually, from a hard childhood or a pattern of repeated painful experiences, even when no single moment stands out as clearly traumatic.
Alongside PTSD, this is exactly what people most want help with when they choose EMDR: anxiety, confidence in relationships, better boundaries, and a stronger sense of identity. It’s what our EMDR offering specialises in.
Kove’s EMDR team trains specifically in complex relational trauma and Complex PTSD. You can read what our clients say below, or take the first step and book a free consultation.
“I cannot recommend Kove highly enough. After a decade of passing through different mental health professionals, Jordan was the first to actually move the needle.”

What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It’s a therapy that relieves distress held in traumatic memories.
During a session, you stay fully present and in control, while also having access to deeper emotional material. We call this EMDR Dual-Attention. Your therapist guides you through rhythmic bilateral stimulation, alongside emotionally attuned conversation, while you hold the target memory in mind. This helps your brain reshape how that memory is stored, connecting it to healthier, more resourced, or even ‘adult’, parts of your mind.
Both NICE (the National Institute of Clinical Excellence) and the WHO (World Health Organisation) recommend EMDR for treating PTSD. Scientific studies support its effectiveness for relieving psychological distress more broadly too.
EMDR helps you update old patterns of fear, shame, and loss of control that got locked in during trauma. Many people feel a release of old emotional pain during the process. As a result, old experiences and relational attachment wounds can feel healed, ultimately holding less power over current feelings and behaviours.
At Kove, your emotional safety always comes first. We work at a pace that feels manageable for you, use a range of techniques to help you approach difficult memories safely, and make sure every session ends with you feeling grounded and settled.
Why Kove for EMDR therapy?
Many therapists offer EMDR as one tool among several. At Kove, EMDR and trauma is what we truly specialise in and build the team around.
We combine strong foundational EMDR practice with extra training in complex trauma. We add attachment informed EMDR work and Internal Family Systems (IFS) integrated care where it helps, especially with relational problems. In our experience, complex or treatment resistant difficulties rarely respond to memory reprocessing alone. The pattern usually sits in an early relationship, not one single event, which is what basic EMDR is built for.
That’s why we also work on a felt sense and relational level. This matters especially when specific memories have been forgotten, feel hazy, or have been intentionally suppressed as “not that bad”, which is common in complex trauma.
We often see clients who have tried other treatments without lasting change. We also see clients whose GP or psychiatrist has spotted a developmental or attachment pattern that talking therapy alone hasn’t fully resolved. Our team is trained and chosen specifically for this kind of sensitive, skilled trauma work.

Online and hybrid EMDR
EMDR doesn’t have to happen in person, which can seem surprising. It works well delivered online, and the evidence supports this. Bilateral stimulation is generated by new software controlled by your therapist and delivered into your device. Emotionality is modulated by a skilled therapist in the same way as in the clinic.
If you travel frequently, or have a busy schedule, a hybrid course can work well. This means you may attend some sessions in person and others remotely.
We do online work with clients who travel frequently for work or leisure and want to keep their sessions regular. It also suits clients who would rather not reschedule around being in London. We’ve delivered online EMDR to many clients over the years, and it remains an effective option.
Our Clinic
Kove is based at 6 Porter Street, in Marylebone, a short walk from Baker Street Underground. We’re also close to Marylebone, Paddington, and Euston stations, as well as Harley Street, Marylebone High Street, and Bond Street Underground.
Our space is designed to feel calm and welcoming, not clinical or corporate. We believe this matters when you’re sitting with difficult material. We want you to feel relaxed enough to open up with us, rather than being on edge or uncomfortable.
